Aug 19-20, Alexandria Bay, NY

We have moved over to Alexandria Bay, NY, about 12 miles east of Clayton.

But we took the long route. First, north around Grindstone Island toward Gananoque and through the 'Wanderer's Channel' of the Admiralty Islands and then through the Navy Islands, the Canadian small boat channel under the Thousand Islands Bridge, then around Wellsley Island and east to Singer Castle where we stopped for a tour.

Bill Scarbrough.

Nice home on 'Wanderer's Channel'.

Winding our way through the Thousand Islands.

Big home on the Canadian shore.

House is on an island in Canada, Back yard is on an island in the USA.
Shortest international bridge anywhere.

Large boat house collapsing.

Home on the main channel.

Singer Castle Sun Room 38 x 20.

Upon leaving Singer Island we encounter our first Great Lake freighter of the day in the channel heading east toward Montreal or out to sea.

MONTREALAIS is a bulk carrier.

We headed back west toward Alexandria Bay and cruised past Boldt Castle which seems to be the tourist focal point for Alexandria Bay.

Boldt Castle power plant is like a fairy castle.

We are staying at the Riveredge Marina in Alexandria Bay and walk into town for dinner.

Bill and Patty Scarbrough.

Riverview Hotel and Marina is a happening place tonight with a small charity concert in the parking lot. Total attendance looks to be about a hundred.

Shania Twin plays a concert in the parking lot of our hotel/marina in Alexandria Bay. She sounded just like Shania Twain.
Very good concert.

Boldt Castle at night from our marina.

This is a nice spot. Weather is cool. Small rain shower moved through. Now clear, calm and very pretty.

Next day we visited Boldt Castle. Took the boat to the Boldt Castle docks and toured the grounds and the boat House. The property is now owned by the St Lawrence Seaway Authority and they are restoring the house using the money generated by the admissions and doing a very good job of completing the construction.

Alster Tower was built first and occupied while the 'castle' was being built. Later a playhouse with a bowling alley.

Gazebo.

Balanced from this angle.

Almost lacy and asymmetrical from this angle.

Boldt power house. Built in 1899 before the castle.

Boldt had 30 boats stored on this very tall boathouse.

Tried to have lunch at the Thousand Islands club but found they only serve dinner. They had to cut back on services is my guess. Then we did a little more touring on the Alex bay side before heading back to our Riverview Hotel and Marina.

Charming home on Millionaires Row at Alex Bay.
