Aug 17-18, Clayton, NY

Back in the USA!

Had a really nice morning as we left Kingston, Ontario, and headed back east via the Bateau Channel to the Thousand Islands.

Windy on the water. As we leave Kingston, Ontario, we see almost 100 windmills on Wolfe island just offshore that supply power to the Canadian grid.

We took the scenic route through a sub group of islands known as the Admiralty Islands and followed a Gananoque tourist boat through the 'Wanderer's Channel' and then around Grindstone Island to Clayton, New York. Saw many homes on the small islands. Very pretty settings. We are protected from the wind because of the narrow channels.

Our total trip was about 30 miles this morning and we arrived at Clayton just after lunch. Tied up to the town dock with 20 mph wind blowing and phoned US Customs as required. No answer. Kept trying for 15 minutes, and the dock master told us to try again later. We will try again later. We moved another one-half mile west and are staying at the Islander Marina located adjacent to the Clayton Antique Boat Museum. We are in a basin but still somewhat 'bouncy' at the dock. Good power and internet.

The winds started to lay down later in the afternoon and we walked into town. Called US Customs again and they answered this time. We checked back into the USA using the videophone at the Clayton town dock and it seemed very easy. Nice way to do it.

Beautiful sunset at Clayton, NY.

Patti and Bill Scarbrough arrive to join us for a week cruising the Thousand Islands.
