July 24, Ste-Jean-de-Richelieu

We are in Canada! And in Quebec where the official language is French!

KOKOMO II has traveled just over 2000 miles since leaving Florida in mid May. We left Rouses Point, NY, on a grey, overcast and very calm morning and moved about a mile north and crosssed into Canada. The Canadians have a Customs Wharf here and we tie up to the dock and present our papers. The Canadian Immigration and Customs officer was very courteous and we were on our way within minutes. Real pleasure not to be hassled.

Narrow channel as we leave Lighthouse Marina
Wind was blowing near 20 mph yesterday. Calm today.

Ft Montgomery (1817) is in the USA.
At the very north end of Lake Champlain.

We left Lake Champlain and are now in the Richelieu River heading north to connect with the St Lawrence River. There we will head west to Montreal.

Bouy markes the US - Canadian Border.

Ft Lennox (1819) in Canada.
Located on Ile Aux Noix in the middle of the Richelieu River.

Very calm water with fog ahead.

Today we moved 25 miles north to the small town of Saint-Jean-de-Richelieu, Quebec, and are staying at La Nautique St-Jean, a marina on the edge of town.

We go to buy an ice cream cone and find we do not have any Canadian money. We find a bank (it is Saturday afternoon) and Linda uses her ATM card to get Canadian cash. Works like a charm. Amazing what technology does these days. Not many stores open in St Jean.

The weather here is nice even though it is not clear and sunny. Temperatures are about 85 and no wind. NYC and New England is still having a heat wave and their forecast high temperature for today is over 100 degrees. I guess we are finally far enough north to get out of the extreme heat.
