May 24, Beaufort, SC
Today we awoke in Savannah with fog all around us and fog horns sounding a five second blast every minute or so.
There were two tugs escorting a freighter upriver in the fog and they operated as if everything was normal. As the fog started to lift we could see more of what was happening around us and then it started to rain. So we got underway today with both rain and fog as we move downstream on the Savannah River back to the Intercoastal Waterway and our trip north. We had about one half mile visibility and combined with the radar we were just fine.
As we head out the Savannah River we pass a large LNG facility.
We continue in the Intercoastal Waterway past the famous Harbortown Lighthouse and some beautiful homes on Hilton Head Island.
We are thoroughly enjoying Beaufort. The town is very close to the marina, has a beautiful new park along the waterfront, lots of interesting shops (almost no vacancies) and several restaurants. Our favorite is Saltus which is on the waterfront and serves seafood including oysters and sushi.
