May 14, Ft. Pierce, FL
We are underway for the summer.
Left the dock at Stuart about 11 am and headed north on the Intercoastal Waterway. Found the boat was going slower than normal and, after checking with a few boating professionals, we decided to haul the boat at Cracker Boy in Ft Pierce and see if we could find the problem(s).
Turned out to be a dirty bottom. Easy fix and should have known to have the bottom done before any long trip. Captain's error but no harm done. Two hours at Cracker Boy and on our way!
Total trip today was about 25 miles to the Ft Pierce Municipal Marina. We are right downtown in the middle of things. Neat location for a marina.
There is a fishing tournament at the marina this weekend and the Captains meeting is tonight so the dock is filled with activities related to the tournament and we are treated to some live music. Ft Pierce downtown is a good example of a downtown redevelopment that seems to be working.
Ft Pierce has a very good farmers market on Saturday mornings throughout the year.
Lots of fresh vegetables, flowers, pastries, honey, teas and ethnic foods from the ethnic communities locally and from the Caribbean and South America.
