Sept 10, Havana, IL

Woke up to fog on the river this morning but finally got underway about 9 am. We moved from the IVY Club and passed by Peoria, and then on to the Tall Timbers Marina in Havana, Illinois.

Peoria waterfront.

Peoria is also industrial.
Caterpillar is headquartered here.

We only had one lock today but we got caught at the Peoria lock (8') and had to wait about 2 hours with seven other 'looper' boats to get through. Otherwise the trip was pleasant as the river is placid and the scenery is almost completely rural. Wilderness on both banks of the river.

'Loopers' Evan and Pookie Davis in the POOKIE II
wait with us for the Lock.

Not all 'looper' boats are cruisers. These are '[oopers' Rick and Betsy Johnson on RICK N' ROLL, a 26' Glacier Bay. Neat people.

Six of the looper boats have ended the day at Tall Timbers Marina. This is a good chance to meet some other 'loopers' and exchange stories and advice.

Tall Timbers Marina.

Havana is a small town getting ready for an Octoberfest celebration tomorrow and Saturday. We walk through the town and find a local newspaper, the 'Illinois Democrat' still publishing.

Downtown Havana.

Illinois Democrat printing plant has the door open
as we walk by on the street.

Havana must be a large farming center as there is a farm equipment dealer here selling large equipment.
