June 19, DeTour Village, MI

The stern section of the VALLEY CAMP as we leave the marina at Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.

We moved from Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, down the St. Mary's River in the morning and had a nice four hour cruise. We used the 'downbound' ship channel and saw only one large freighter as she passed us in the 'upbound' channel. We were never closer to the freighter than 200 yards or so.

We are heading 'downchannel' and this freighter is heading 'upchannel'.

Coast Guard overtaking us. They just kept on going.

Small lighthouse 'Round Island Light' on the shore of the St Mary's River.

Tree stump, about 20 feet tall, carved into a seaman in rain gear with a lantern. Seem appropriate where we are in the rainy windy weather.
Located at a private home across the street from the marina in DeTour.

We had planned to head for the Les Chaneaux Islands today but the wind picked up to 20-25 so we stopped for the night in DeTour Village at the marina. We had a bit of a difficult time getting into a slip in the wind and found the first slip too small so we had to move to a bigger slip. The afternoon was windy but pretty and we had a nice dinner at the local restaurant. Michigan has done a good job of providing secure, protected ports every 30 miles or so.
