Sept 8, Sparrow Lake, ON

Great to have Jodie and Ken aboard for today's cruise. Before we left Orillia, we use our rental car and drive to see the beautiful bronze statue in the Couchiching State Park and then visit a few shops and the A&P in downtown Orillia . The mechanic has the generator part we need and comes to the boat about 11 to replace the fuel pump. He finishes at noon and we leave going north on Lake Couchiching as the rain showers can be seen all around Orillia.

Lake Couchiching

This is not just a sand bank on the shore like we see in Florida. This is solid granite.

An excavated canal

As we go north, we run the generator under load to check the fix and the generator quits after and hour. Bummer. This is the same problem we have been having, So even though the fuel pump needed replacing, it did not fix our problem. I call the mechanic to see if he can service us again later in the week. Maybe in Midland.

Ken takes the helm.

We go through lock #42 Couchiching (21’ drop) and enter the Severn River where we see lots of pretty homes lining the narrow canal for the next several miles,

We spend the night at the Lauderdale Point Resort Marina and Trailer Park

We decide to stop about 3 pm at the corner of the Severn River and Sparrow Lake at the Lauderdale Point Resort (and trailer park) which is four and a half miles from any town. The have 30 amp power and showers but no internet. Wonder where the Lauderdale name comes from? The weather clears late this afternoon and the temperature is 65 degrees with a slight breeze. A beautiful afternoon in the country.
