Sept 22-23, Falmouth, MA

Motored five miles west through the Cape Cod Canal (on an incoming tide which added 3 kts to our speed) and then south in Buzzards Bay another 20 miles to Woods Hole, where we looked around from the water.

While we were in the small Harbor of Woods Hole two large car/passenger ferry's left for Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket and we had to stand clear. Woods Hole is home to the famous Oceanographic Center and their research vessel dominates the harbor.

After leaving Woods Hole we continued east another 5 miles to the long and narrow harbor at Falmouth, Massachusetts.

Ferry to Martha's Vineyard leaves from Falmouth and is berthed right across the harbor from us.

This is a nice stop with lots of boats docked in the harbor. There are quite a few large sport fishing boats here, just like the one's we see in Florida.


They must be here for the summer white marlin and the fall run of Bluefin tuna. Smaller boats fish for Strippers as they are found around the rocks. Looks like everyone is enjoying one of the last good weather weekends before their boats go south or into storage for the winter. All the marina's are getting ready to close by about November 1st or so and we see lots of boats being taken out of the water, ready for winterizing.

Falmouth has a grocery store only a block away from the marina (very unusual), a West Marine store next door to the grocery and a restaurant across the street. What more can we want. We are at the Falmouth Harbor Town Marina and right in the middle of everything. Fixed dock, not floating like we have been enjoying most places in New England where the tides are pretty extreme.

We listened to part of the Florida Old Miss game and found Florida squeaked by 30-24. So far so good for the Gators. We are still flying our Gator flag from our radar mast.

We walked into downtown Falmouth on Sunday (about a mile away) and liked the little town. Had a nice lunch and walked back. Weather is 75 degrees and perfectly clear. Today is the first day of fall and we are having a Nice New England fall day.
