We left Newport about 9:00 am and motored out of Narragansett Bay into Long Island Sound and turned east looking to see the mansions from the water. Seas are flat calm but the air is hazy and our view is not chrystal clear like most days in Florida. We go around some fish traps, dodge the lobster floats and steer around the rocks but finally the mansions come into view. Very impressive and we note that the "season" here was only about six weeks. We get the feeling that these homes are the remnants of "another age". The Elms had a staff of 40, including 18 inside servants. Only the inside servants travelled with the family back to the main residence in NYC.







We motored up the Western Narragansett Bay about 8 miles to Wickford, a small town on the western shore. Hot today, over 90, and we are laying low until it cools. Wickford Marina is very pleasant and has a nice patio with grills and tables, shade and flowers and nice showers. Town is one half mile away. Our boat electronics now note that we have travelled over 2000 nautical miles since leaving Stuart a the end of May.





We stay on the boat from 1pm to 3pm as it is mid 90 degrees outside. Our power connection to the boat at the Wickford Marina was giving us low power (99 volts instead of the 110-120 volts we need) to adequately operate the air conditioning units (we have three) on the boat. So after several a/c shutdowns we decide to move to another marina. We head north another 10 miles to the active boating center of East Greenwich, RI.



Dockage is available at Milt's Marina, the power is very good (117 volts) and there is an active restaurant, 20 Water Street, right above the dock with a covered patio overlooking the harbor. E. greenwich is a pretty harbor with the large, forrested Goddard State park all along the opposite shore. The water temperature here is over 80 degrees, the warmest in this area. It was 72 in Long Island Sound this morning as we cruised the mansions. We have a nice dinner at 20 Water Street and then about 9pm a 10 piece soft ROCK BAND starts up on the patio right above our boat and plays 'til midnight. All part of the adventure.
