Aug 13, Provincetown, MA

We left our mooring about 10 am and moved north, up the rest of Buzzards Bay, then entered the Cape Cod Canal and went east into Cape Cod Bay, then 20 miles across the bay to Provincetown, which is at the very north end of Cape Cod. Total distance today was about 35 miles, the seas were flat and there was some scattered light rain.

This RR bridge is the beginning of the Cape Cod Canal

This tower commemorates the landing of the Pilgrims in Provincetown in 1620 where they stayed for 5 weeks before they moved to Plymouth

We entered the harbor at Provincetown and picked up a mooring and immediately went into town. There was a lot of pedesterian traffic on the streets (more than we have seen in any resort setting on our trip).

The pilot of our launch reports that the town is only about 20-30% straight and the rest gay and lesbian. His comment was that there were not many "breeders" left in town. Provincetown seems to be the New England version of Key West, FL. Our guide reports that locals "treat everyone with respect" and that the crime rate is very low. Lots of funky shops and several good restaurants.

This town has lots of "rainbow flags" and signs about meeting your prince

Seems to be a favorite stop for boaters in this part of the world as the marina and moorings are sold out this coming Wed through Sunday.
