July 11-12, Milford, CT

Motored in the haze about 5 miles to Milford harbor.

As we enter the harbor from Long Island Sound

This is a really pretty spot. Nice marina "Milford Landing" is located at the top of the harbor and is very close to the small town. Beautiful city park here maintained by the marina with lots of flowers and some lawn. We are waiting for a weather front to come through and expect rain and thunderstorms tonignt. We are happy to be in a safe secure place.

Storm has passed us by and we have clear skies.

The storm turned south and only brushed by our area. We had a little rain and almost no wind but it is cooler and that is good. We are looking to tour New Haven while we are close. We head off by commuter train and then a taxi into downtown. We walk around a bit and then to the Yale campus. The old campus has beautiful grounds and buildings. We especially like the main library, which we were told by a professor, was built to resemble a cathedral designed by an architect who wanted to do a cathedral and never got the commission. The library is complete with main vault (lobby), alter (large check out desk at the far end of the lobby with main focal point behind), cloister (reading garden) and chapel (reading room). Architect said it would be a cathedral to learning. We then visited the Beinecke Rare Book Library, a completely modern building, (only one on campus) given to Yale by some of Robin Horner's relatives. Beinecke's were founders of S&H Green Stamps (remember those?) among other things.

Then back to the train station on the New Haven bus and train to Milford. Had a great gelato and went to the used bookstore and then to dinner.
