June 9-10, Solomons, MD
Motored out of Crisfield about 5 miles to Smith Island and went several miles through the channels of Smith Island to take a look. There are three small communities on Smith and the business is the same as on Tangier-crabs. Same deal with the red markers-they switch in the middle of the island. We went through and saw one of the communities up close and then went back out into the bay and went another 25 miles to the other side of the Chesapeake Bay and then north to Solomons, MD. The weather was windy, the seas 3-5 feet and we are feeling a little battered upon arrival.
Solomon's is a BIG boating center with lots of boats here (looks like 50 to 100 boats in each marina and at last a half dozen marinas) and we check into Spring Cove Marina. Upon arrival, we decide that it is very pretty here. Lots of trees and a setting on a bluff, with a pool, clubhouse and restaurant. Nice working marina here, too, for repairs if needed. This is a possible place for winter storage.
Internet is working well here and was not working at all on Tangier and was slow in Crisfield. Feels like we are back in upscale civilization. We put everything back in order after the rough crossing and washed the salt off the boat. Now it is time for a nap.
