May 7-8, Jekyll Island, GA

The kids are catching sea creatures for their classroom right next to our boat

Spotted the famous wild horses of Cumberland Island grazing on the sand dunes on the river side of the island as we passed by. Must have been 10-15 horses just wandering around with no fences. Very pretty. Decide to bypass Cumberland Island as our stop for tonight (we had dinner reservations at the famous Greystone Inn and then were scheduled to tie up to their dock overnight) because of the weather (still blowing pretty hard) and go to Jekyll Island. Cumberland has only older fixed docks and no sheltered harbor. Jekyll has a nice marina, Jekyll Harbor Marina, with floating docks (tides now 5-6 feet) loaner bikes and a courtesy car. Spent two nice days (weather blustery) on the bikes touring the historic area of Jekyll Island and had lunch at the old hotel. Tiffany stained glass in the chapel was spectacular. Very nice stop and a good place to ride out the forcast storm which never arrived with any force. But we were ready! I think.
