Aug 22, Oswego, NY

Rain today. Probably all day.

We moved 40 miles southwest from Sackets Harbor into Lake Ontario and then almost due south to Oswego. Bill and Owen take the boat for the 3 hour trip and Patty and Linda bring the car. Waves on Lake Ontario were 2-3 with some wind from the southeast so as we approached Oswego the waves dropped to almost nothing.

Lighthouse as we enter Lake Ontario.

Nuclear Power Plant cooling tower as we make landfall
after crossing Lake Ontario.

We had a few waves spray over the top of the boat today. All fresh water, so no need to get the salt off the boat when we arrive. Not a bad crossing and much better than the last three crossings of Lake Ontario that we can remember. Still raining as we reach Oswego.

Oswego Lighthouse is a welcome sight as we enter the Oswego Harbor.

We are staying at the Oswego Marina and they are having a fishing derby here. Participants are fishing in Lake Ontario and targeting salmon and brown trout. They tell us the fishing is picking up considerably from what it has been most of the summer.

Patty and Bill Scarbrough leave this afternoon to head back to California. Great to have them aboard and to share some of the sights of the Thousand Islands. Very pretty part of upper New York. Bill brought some great wines for us to enjoy during our week together. Said he has a wine cellar at home and it was overstocked. Thanks Bill and Patty.

Rained all evening, too.
