Oct 8, Florence, AL

We moved from Joe Wheeler west (downstream) through the two lakes and two locks and are back in Florence, Alabama, at the Florence Marina.

Leaving Joe Wheeler State Park.

Beautiful shoreline on Lake Wheeler.

Big homes on Lake Wilson.

Many homes have boathouses.

Clubhouse for a beautiful golf and yacht club on Lake Wilson.

Beautiful shoreline on Lake Wilson, too.

The Wilson Lock is a drop of 93' and is the biggest on our trip. We tie up to a bollard that floats down as we are lowered in the lock and it is a very smooth operation. No waiting today for either lock.

Wilson Lock is full as we enter.

Wilson Lock empty.
We have decended 93 feet.

Big doors open for us to leave Wilson Lock.
These doors are more than 100 feet tall.

We toured the Frank Lloyd Wright/Rosenbaum House this afternoon in Florence. Rated a GEM by AAA, we felt the tour was a GEM but the house was strange, as most of the Wright houses seem to be. Certainly built for small people (Wright was 5'6") with lots of built in furniture. Narrow 20" doors and low ceilings. Rosenbaums built this house in 1940 and added a Wright designed addition in 1948 and lived in it until the city bought it in 1999. City has done a beautiful job of restoring it.

Rosenbaum House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1940.

Living room.

We tour the University of North Alabama campus and look for the live lion's that are the team mascots for UNA. Lions are out of the cage and away with the team.

UNA is a pretty campus.
