Aug 16-17, Sturgeon Bay, WI

Ted and Cookie left us this morning in Egg Harbor after a week of cruising the small towns of the Door Peninsula. Great week.

The weather forecast shows storms coming in from Wisconsin later today so we head out this morning from Egg Harbor ahead of the expected heavy weather. It is clear and breezy as we move the 15 miles south to Sturgeon Bay. Water temperature is 70 degrees as we travel today.

We pass the FRED S BUSSE a tourist sighseeing boat based at the Door Count Maratime Museum as we enter the channel at Sturgeon Bay. Now calls itself the 'Fireboat'.

These ships were in the yard for repairs over the winter. Usually working in the summer, they have not left the yard because of no charters this summer. They are iron ore carriers. Poor economy is to blame.

The ships look to be in good condition.

We are docked at the Harbor Club Marina on the south side of the channel just west of where the workmen will be noisily removing the old west bridge on Monday. It is quiet on Sunday. Ted calls us after we are tied up at the marina to report that he is driving along Lake Michigan in heavy fog and some rain. He's glad we are secure. Weather can change in a hurry up here.

This is our third visit Sturgeon Bay. We are here to get a new electronic compass installed on Monday morning and this is a convenient spot for the workmen to work on the boat.

The rain comes and goes all afternoon. We get a break in the weather and go exploring. The shopping area south of the bridge is near our marina. Most of the stores and restaurants are north of the bridge in Sturgeon Bay.

Monday morning in Sturgeon Bay and the weather is bright and sunny as the front has gone through last evening. The auto pilot compass has been replaced by Paul at Bay Electronics in Sturgeon Bay and compensated with a sea trial this morning. The compass, radar headings, chartplotter headings and graphics now match.

David from Great Lakes Yacht Services in Sturgeon Bay is looking into my generator problem. The fuel celenoid is shutting off the fuel supply to the generator and we need to find out why.

We spend the night at Great Lakes Yacht Services next to a
49' Alden, 48' Ocean Alexander and 48' Grand Banks.

We are spending another night in Sturgeon Bay at the Great Lakes Yacht Services Yard as they try to figure out our generator. We are now on the north side of the bridge and can walk to the northside downtown from their boat yard.
