July 21-22, Northport, MI

We have moved 15 miles north on Grand Traverse Bay from the village of Suttons Bay to the village of Northport. Kathy and Rick and Owen moved the boat and Linda brought the car. Water was flat calm this morning and we had a beautiful cruise. We are docked on the east wall of the marina with 50 amp power and very good free internet service from the marina. Owen can upload pictures and surf the internet with speed. Small things make us happy. The weather is clear and calm with a high temperature today of 77. Beautiful.

Rick and Kathy on autopilot heading to Northport.

Kathy out on the bowsprit like on the TITANIC.

Ruins of a house built on a bird island a mile offshore of Northport.
Birds stayed and the smell kept the humans from rebuilding.

Motoryacht ELEGANTE, a 63 foot Whiticar (the only Whiticar motoryacht) built in Stuart, Florida, stops in Northport.

We find a pretty boat in the marina that looks somewhat like a Trumpy, but isn't. It turns out to be a Whiticar, built for Pratt and Whitney (who wanted a Trumpy but did not want to be on the waiting list for two years). Whiticar built this boat in 1964 in the style of a Trumpy and we have never seen anything like her. She is owned by a couple who live in Charlevoix, on Round Lake in summer and in Naples in the winter. Boat has cruised extensively including Alaska's Glacier Bay. She has a professional crew of two.

We take a car trip to the north end of the Leelanau Peninsula and see the Grand Traverse Lighthouse close up.

Our crew is looking for Petosky stones on the rocky beaches in several locations. Rick and Kathy both find some.
