July 10, Stratford, CT

We are hot in our marina in the harbor in Cedar Creek. Temp is about 95 degrees today and we decide to head out into the Long Island Sound to cool off. Very hazy again today even more than yesterday. The Sound is flat calm with almost no wind. Some of the small sailboats that are trying to race are being towed back to shore as there is almost no wind for them to make any headway.

Temperature on the water is nice (80's) because the water temp in the Sound is still about 70. About 5 miles east of Cedar Creek, we go into the large harbor at Bridgeport to see what's there. Mostly industrial and heavy commercial with some high rise office buildings a short distance from the harbor. We decide this is no place for small yachts and there seem to be no facilities to serve them. A large auto ferry is leaving Bridgeport for Long Island as we enter the harbor and another ferry is returning as we leave.

We head further east to the Housatonic River and see 25-50 locals gathering some seafood (oysters?) on the exposed flats at low tide as we enter the harbor.

We go up the river about two miles to Marina at the Dock. This is a pleasant area with many sailboats and our marina is near grocery and other services. There is a sportfish "Off the Record" from Jensen Beach in our marina. We do not see anyone around the boat so we do not know the story but maybe we wll see them again. We spend the rest of the afternoon in the a/c on the boat making some plans for the next several weeks. In the morning we go grocery shopping and restock the pantry.

Our marina is Marina at the Dock and is in a pretty setting with grocery and other stores nearby. It is also noisy with freeway (I-95) and commuter train traffic.

This is the Shakespeare Theater at Stratford, now closed.
