We went out the east side of Tangier and went about 10 miles to Crisfield, MD, which is the supply center for the crabbing islands of Tangier Island and Smith Island. Smith Island is just north of Tangier. Marina at Crisfield was large and nearly deserted and the town did not have many trees (I think the British were here, too) and so not very charming. Lots of vacancy in the stores on the street. However the town was a good supply center with grocery and drug store, hardware and several boating supply stores and a big crab trap supply store. The weather was hot (over 90) and no shade, so we waited to explore until later in the afternoon. There was a small museum featuring local history and the crab industry (not much to see) and a pool at the marina. Later, Ken Horner and I put out the crab trap in Crisfield at the marina in 12 feet of water. We baited it with chicken legs and let it sit overnight. In the morning we had two crabs (YEAH) and released them as we had no license. Did I mention that the marine patrol was headquartered in the marina?
