John Crowell joins us on KOKOMO II for our trip from Savannah to Thunderbolt to the Bayou Bleu Marina. On the way, John takes us sightseeing into the rivers and byways of the lowlands surrounding Savannah. We go upriver to the main port, and then back downriver past downtown Savannah again and then out toward Tybee. John relates several stories of his maritime construction projects on the Savannah River during his time with the Army Corps Of Engineers. Some pretty substantial work, and all still standing even after some hurricanes. Thanks, John.
On the way to Tybee, John took us into one skinny backwater after another and finally into the area where Paula Deen lives on the water with her sea captain husband. Linda had seen the house used on the cooking show on the Food Network and was able to pick it out from the water. Owen took pictures and wanted to honk the horn but Linda prevailed and we acted like adults instead of star struck tourists. After docking at the marina we went on a driving tour of Tybee Island with John and Sherry and ended up at their home for dinner. Jacky and friends joined us for dinner on the deck overlooking miles and miles of open lowlands and the beautiful sunset.
